Guilty Pleasures

C'mon, we all have them. It's those things that we enjoy in the privacy of our own space. Things we don't let others know we watch or listen to or even enjoy for that matter. Perhaps a couple close at heart may know the truth but outside of that 'circle of trust' know one knows the real YOU.
Rather than trying to throw up a 100 things about me list...because I suffer greatly from ADD and would never make it through, I thought I'd just toss this out there as a snippet of things that make me ... weird? Naw, just the dork that I am, I suppose.

1) I like N*Sync. I thought Justin was just the cutest thing. WAS!

2) I enjoy coloring in coloring books using pencils, marker, and pastels.

3) I play air guitar, drums, and whistle like I'm playing the trumpet.

4) I love the Pirate Movie with Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins.

5) I watch ABC Daytime television and ENJOY it.

6) I rap to Tupac, Ice Cube, Ice Tea - rent Office Space;
I'm the geek bouncin' attitude in the car, TOTALLY.

7) And finally...I blog from work...but who doesn't???????
And you have to feel guilty so I guess this truly doesn't qualify?

Hm, not really as embarassing as I thought it would be when I started this...

Say hello to my little friend

My new baby! I love it and I feel like an A-dult now. Lol! This puppy has 15.4" WXGA Bright
View Widescreen, 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM , 100GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive , DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support , and most importantly it comes with a remote control which stores on board along the side of the keyboard. I hug it everyday and let it know it's loved.

It was actually a practical purchase because of the real estate appraisal biz picking up. I have been stuck in the office, across town, late for the past couple of weeks and my home grown unit died on me AGAIN (this time no downloading involved). So it was time to get mobile; now I can work in and out of the office etc. Just a few more orders and it will pay for itself ; )

I took weeks to find THE one. I was checking out the Toshiba Satellite series for a while because I was in search of something about 5lbs or less. Plus the 14" monitor was plenty of screen for me and my work however the sound quality was ridiculous on Toshiba as well as MANY others I sampled thru Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, Fry's Electronics... hey, if they had pc's to tinker with, I checked them out.

Needless to say, this Dv4000 model fit the bill. Actually, I was looking for a diff HP model; a smaller unit. However, it was being discontinued and next to impossible to find. Then I was directed to this machine and when I saw the screen light up I was sold by the bright and shining object.
What an incredible monitor; widescreen, and the sound was just fabulous. OMG and wireless out the box...tried in several locations with connection every time. Splendid! But perhaps the biggest true factor that drove my search was for sound.

Music while I work is GREATLY appreciated and I just have to have that. I love my MP3 player but I don't like hanging out with buds in my ears so I got lucky and found a notebook that gave it's speaker location and quality a bit of a boost.
Thank you HP!

To Dina!

"Dinah Shore's dead. She died backin '94. And, actually, the word is that she hated her snooty little golf tournament turned into a spring break for lesbians. Refused to acknowledge it.”

-- The L Word's Alice Pieszecki enlightening a carload of Dinah-bound buddies last season. More history on this weekend party found here.

This is a most incredible event. I liken it to a smaller scale Mardi Gras for lesbians. There's some degree of public nudity and sexual content, especially on the balconies during the pool parties along with much alcohol consumption, music, and overall party flavor.

However there are no beads invovled or parades and no one wears costumes with exception to the theme parties hosted at the hotel ballrooms.

I've been to four Dinah weekends and will soon be attending my fifth this March/April. It's a pilgrimage to say the least but a well worth it break from the daily deals...I'm not closeted however to a certain degree we live daily in some form of cocoon and it's nice to shed it during the week that is Dinah in Palm Springs, CA.

My experience with Dinah Shore Weekend started in 2000. I was reading an article in Curve magazine and Ellen D. and Anne H were to headline/MC the comedy show of the weekend. Well, DrM2B and I grabbed tix and head west for a party. We had a blast - it was a languid feeling 36 hours, LOL!

So two years later, we went again and it was even better. Spent the afternoon in Venice, shopping the outlet in PS then partied late into the next morning on what was an extended trip this go around. It was crazy, we had these Renaissance folk hanging in the room next to us as the festival was in town and Conan? was very intrigued by the weekend events. Much laughs were had over the weekend.

Well, my sister and her girlfriend had been wanting me to take them forever and my partner had never been so we went in 2004 and met up with my other sister who lives in CA with her girlfriend(my family is proof for arguing genetic homosexuality) and just for the record, I came out first (there, had to be said).

Anyway, they had a great time. We loved the pool party and enjoyed the night dancing and being open and generally having a great time. It's like owning the city - nothing but women mostly and it's so liberating to say the least.

We enjoyed it so much it has now become a tradition. My love and I went again last year, had a wonderful time and did our own thing.

This year we're all heading there again and will enjoy the sun, pool, drink and be amazed at the snow capped San Jacinto Mountains surrounding us. It is simply a majestic and blissful time that transcends any other pride festival I've ever attended. Can't wait to get out there.

Playing with pics

Finally got around to sending them somewhere so I have them versus just travel with them.

Here are a couple of the baby;

This one at top was the first week we got her. Don't think she even weighed but maybe a pound and a half.

This is her lying on the bed. One of the decorative pillows was tossed up and she found it. What a priss! I don't say princess because she is a tough b*tch, I'd say she's more of a queen because of her demand, yea, that's accurate.

Had these on my phone forever...actually three phones ago? So, it took me a while and since she'll be a year in April I guess it took me 10-11 months to get my ass in gear to put these some place I can actually use them. Procrastinate? No, busy? A little. However I will try to be better about such things in the future. I've three other dogs to try to photograph and I'll add them to my page when I do. Paying homage to my pets..!? It's not that I won't put my family up however, I get a little nervous doing so. I can honestly say that is when my blogging is censored.

Call me paranoid, I don't care, I just feel like it's not safe to put the kids pics online. They have their own pics of themselves on myspace anyway so I guess it's a moot point but - I don't know, just feels off somehow. I've only posted me and my partner once in the very beginning and it was a small shot over Sedona so it seemed harmless. Stupid? Yea, probably but we'll work on that.

Achacha!

I'll be the first to admit

I have major issues when it comes to toilet tissue. I used to stock up a couple cases in the garage but not with mucho addition to my family I'm lucky to stay ahead of the game with one case. Regardless, I would never resort to violence should I find us in the negative on toilet tissue.
Unlike this article I read today:

...man accused of fatally beating his roommate with a sledgehammer and a claw hammer because there was no toilet paper in their home ...

For those who want to know, this time the insanity occurred in Florida, Moss Bluff to be precise. Not familiar with the town myself. Craziness, utter craziness. I can understand the stress and strain being stranded on the bowl might leave you feeling but to commit murder?

Evidently they were arguing over it, one guy pulled out a rifle so the other proceeded to pummel him with a sledge hammer AND claw hammer cause the sledge hammer, I guess, just didn't get the job done. Damn, that is just brutal. Well, hope everyone's stocked up!!!

Are they all stooopid?

On my soap box. . .

The topic of Cheney and the news delay came up at work tonight. They don't see what the big deal is that the info was given a day later. Hm? Well, let's see, could it be this administration has lied to us over and over again so much so that any thing that smells foul is looked at with cynicism? And furthermore, with damn good reason?

Ted's car "accident" was brought up and how Mary K.(don't know her last name spelling and too tired to look it up) died but the info was held off until later then exposed. Thank you for making my point. It was delayed being reported to assist a cover up. Just as who's to say this wasn't delayed for cover up purposes. Why else wouldn't the info been coughed up? Because they were sooo concerned for his health? NOT - according to the report provided the NEXT day he was in great shape and it was merely a flesh wound (LOL Go Monty!) right?

Look, this office is a joke and the WORLD knows this. The United States looks ridiculous right now and just continues to lose more respect the longer this guy hangs out in the oval office with his buddies.

I won't deny I am biased for two reasons; I'm a Democratic Liberal and I am agnostic. Those two things have me pretty much hating every single decision this guy has made since he stole the election with his cronies from Florida some 6-7 years ago. Without the threat of war and terrorism he'd have never lasted a second term - it's JUST that simple. There's a copy of his resume that goes to show you what kind of a guy ?half? the country voted into office. If this yahoo can succeed as well as he has, it gives us all hope I suppose, eh?

Had to do it...

It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear; Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows, As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows. The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand, And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night

But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou her maid art far more fair than she... It is my lady, it is my love! O, that she knew she were!
The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars, As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven Would through the airy region stream so bright That birds would sing and think it were not night. See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O, that I were a glove upon that hand, That I might touch that cheek!
With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do that dares love attempt...

It is my soul that calls upon my name: How silver-sweet sound lovers' tongues by night, Like softest music to attending ears!

Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare

Okay, must share!

Found this here, and I love it - knew she reminded me of someone...

Note the resemblence!?!?!?!

Reading catch up

I was on AfterEllen today to pick up the current gossip/news and found this:

Since her introduction last season on L Word, I thought she was cute but had this really dirty(not in a good way) appearance about her. After spying this pic, it's the make up artist who works with her and should be FIRED for making her look the way she does episode after episode. SO much better looking when she is out of that hatchet's chair!

I just thought I'd share that because I have blasted her since she started (about her "look") and now I know it wasn't her fault necessarily but an overzealous compact carrying, foundation fanactic clownsperson. Rant over, my apologies Sarah Shahi (aka Carmen).

OOOoooh...mystical...

BORROWED I say, NOT stolen from Leesa! Thanks girl!

You Are The Moon

You represent the unconscious side of life, what happens in dreams.

You are capable of great genius - but also of great madness.

Emotions tend to be primal for you, both your fears and your fantasies.

Your intuition is always right, listening to it is the difficult part.

Your fortune:

You are about to embark on a very important journey - and a very difficult one.

Some of your deepest dreams will be realized, as well as some of your deepest nightmares.

Follow your creativity and visions; stay away from your weaknesses.

You are taking a voyage to the center of yourself, and you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

I go back...

WARNING: Long post ahead!!! Thanks to Lynn M Chicago for getting me on this soap box

Doing some catch up reading tonight I stumbled on a post via another blogger's site that seemed to sing to me. It seemed so poetic since it was not only something on my own mind for a while now but my partner and I just discussed this tonight. She has an online space and was contacted by an old roommate/school friend from 10 + years ago. The memories must have been flooding her because she was gone (lol) but very excited and happy that this person she'd wondered about has obviously been curious about her as well. And that is very cool.

However, referring back to the post that brought me here... there is a huge disservice brought to our youth by the now electronic age. I too have letters upon letters from my past that bring me back to a place where I remember being a different person. And sometimes it's nice to travel that road for some reflection, etc. Hell, a song brought me to some of my best times while in the shower today...but I digress...

Anyway, when my partner and I first began a courtin' we would email back and forth. Granted we were long away from the days of school where you'd toss a letter in a locker and we did live in town about an hour or so apart and saw each other at least twice a week and spoke daily. I quantify this because it didn't seem appropriate to physically mail a letter that would obviously get to her or I after we'd then gone ahead to discuss its contents over the phone. Problem is, now I have spent time going through our old email addresses to try to print hundreds of letters..which to an extent is a waste of paper. I feel like I'm rambling.

Bottom line...I sort of feel like we got jipped...we did it to ourselves. And although it was through this medium (email) of communication that we developed into coupledom it still leaves you kind of hurmphf thinking about not having the neatly and crafty folded notes with S.W.A.K written on the outside. Or even the softly worn and yellowing envelope with the postmark validating it's existence and imprint on time.

The kids live on MySpace or the telephone and the eldest was 'talking' to her cuz in CA on MySpace and then called her on the phone to find out why she hadn't responded and then said something in regards to "well hang up and get back on my space so we can talk" HUH!?!?!?!?!
They spend the whole day together in school and then talk on MySpace instead of leaving notes in lockers or stopping by the house.

My partner and I watched Possession (originally a novel by Byatt) with Paltrow and Eckerson. I enjoyed the film in theatre and again although some script was cheezy amongst the modern day characters. But what it reminded me of was that lost art of writing. Also in Kate and Leopold, when Leopold is trying to help Kate's brother woo this woman he's been into and he dictates a letter and the language and tone used is utterly sexy beyond measure. There's this romantic component that is no longer in the equation today and that is terribly sad!!! I've never been interested in romance novels but some fanciful words of a poem or a skilled letter written with the passion of a lover - those are ALWAYS in fashion, are they not!?!?

I too, was once more literary and hand wrote many letters. Often I was inspired to be a little more creative and flow with a different vocabulary from another time to put a colour to what I was trying to express. My love had commented many months ago that she misses receiving my emails from our first year. It's true I have not written nearly enough nor with any depth in over a year and a half and it's not because my feelings have changed it's just a matter of mind. Somewhere I lost that feeling of romance within myself; that everything I'd try to write sounded false or silly and I didn't want to come off ingenuine.

Is it safe to assume that's how others perceive love letters, silly? Writing down how you feel makes it permanent; a commitment, at least for the moment. I've always joked and been teased about my commitment issues but honestly writing has never been about commitment as much as it's been about the moment. It validates how I feel right then and reminds me of that feeling later when I go back. It's history, my history. So, I think I have my answer...it is a matter of feeling foolish and looking the part and that perception keeps us from taking the leap and telling someone how special they are. Can this be changed? Perhaps it's just we all need more practice.

Hm? I can see it...snagged from Leesa

But not that last line, I don't have a problem with decision making, I don't think ??? LOL!

You Have a Melancholic Temperament

Introspective and reflective, you think about everything and anything.

You are a soft-hearted daydreamer. You long for your ideal life.

You love silence and solitude. Everyday life is usually too chaotic for you.

Given enough time alone, it's easy for you to find inner peace.

You tend to be spiritual, having found your own meaning of life.

Wise and patient, you can help people through difficult times.

At your worst, you brood and sulk. Your negative thoughts can trap you.

You are reserved and withdrawn. This makes it hard to connect to others.

You tend to over think small things, making decisions difficult.

My house...

If I only had a straight edge and compass to work with!!!

Based on the drawing and the 10 answers they gave this is a summary of their personality:You are sensitive and indecisive at times. You are a freedom lover and a strong person. You are shy and reserved. If you've drawn a cross on each of windows, you always want to live alone. You are very tidy person. There's nothing wrong with that because you're pretty popular among friends. Your life is always full of changes. You will avoid being alone and seek the company of others whenever possible. You love excitement and create it wherever you go. You see the world as it is, not as you believe it should be. You added a flower into your drawing. The flower signifies that you long for love. It also safe to say that others don't see you as a flirt. You don't think much about yourself.

Thanks Minta and Leesa!
